Ziguinchor, June 13 (APS) – Twenty journalists from the Ziguinchor region (south) completed training on Thursday on the media treatment of migration issues, at the initiative of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), in the as part of its Information, training, migration in West Africa (Informa) project.

“In reporting on migration issues, the journalist must do a good job aimed at national and international opinion. The purpose of this workshop is to ensure that Senegalese journalists can dig deeper into migration issues and provide the right information,” explained Maguette Ndong, journalist for the national daily “Le Soleil” and trainer for the Informa project.

The Informa project aims to train Senegalese journalists on migration issues, explained Mr. Ndong, also deputy secretary general of the Union of Information and Communication Professionals of Senegal (Synpics), at the end of this training. two days.

According to him, journalists have a responsibility to do everything to provide the right information on migration issues.

“It is not only Africans who emigrate,” he stressed, noting that the phenomenon of migration also concerns Europeans and Americans.

This training, he said, aims to equip information professionals with the necessary tools to better inform the public about the dangers of irregular emigration, “a complex phenomenon with multiple issues, both national and international. ”.

Maguette Ndong, during this training session, recalled the rules of media treatment of a “sensitive subject with the fundamental principles of the profession of journalism”. He notably mentioned “the search for truth, independence, impartiality, responsibility towards others”.
