The Director of Education of the Viamonde School Board, Michel Laverdière, has just announced his departure for next December.

Mr. Laverdière put his retirement on hold in April 2022 to take over as director of Education (the equivalent of general management) of the Council on an interim basis. He replaced Jean-Luc Bernard, who had also returned to service temporarily, after the unexpected departure of Martin Bertrand in 2021.

Reconciliation

According to Viamonde officials, “Mr. Laverdière will have kept his promise to bring his office closer to schools, by making frequent field visits.

He himself indicates that a school board is “first and foremost the people who make it up. I wanted the people on the ground to feel that we were working for them, so that they could give the best of themselves, for the students.”

He met with young people and staff in schools, parents on school councils, and participated in various community festivals and celebrations.

Efficiency

“Mr. Laverdière’s legacy will also include the implementation of various initiatives to improve transparency and organizational efficiency, including the publication of a quarterly review of strategic planning, the creation of permanent committees, the reorganization of the manual of policies and administrative directives and the establishment of a complaints handling process…”
