In the Grands Boulevards district of Paris, the Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau, a magnificent 18th century mansion, opens its doors to the public for the first time. Classified as a Historic Monument, this architectural gem has been given a makeover to accommodate the School of Jewelery Arts. From June 13 to September 1, 2024, the first free exhibition on the stage jewelry of the Comédie-Française is revealed, a treasure not to be missed.

Located at 16 bis boulevard Montmartre, the Mercy-Argenteau Hotel offers a new prestigious setting for the École des Arts Joailliers. What could be more beautiful than this hotel classified as a Historic Monument to accommodate the free exhibitions from school ? Founded more than ten years ago with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, this cultural institution aims to promote jewelry culture throughout the world. In addition to its two Parisian sites, the school organizes nomadic sessions in New York and Tokyo, and has permanent campuses in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Dubai.

The interior layout of theMercy-Argenteau Hotel was entrusted to the talented designer and interior architect Constance Guisset. He was given the task of creating a harmonious space that would highlight the exhibits without overshadowing the historical setting. She designed freestanding picture rails for the party room, created an imposing chandelier for the staircase and integrated elements inspired by cabinets of curiosities in the future bookstore.

The materials used, such as oak and veneer, combine resistance and refinement. Color also plays an important role, especially blue, which creates a mysterious atmosphere and contrasts with dark passages.

The highlight of the first temporary exhibition proposed by L’École des Arts Joailliers is devoted to “Stage jewelry from the Comédie-Française“. This unique exhibition brings together more than 120 accessories, works of art and documents from the collections of this famous theater. The exhibition route is divided into several acts, offering an immersion behind the scenes of the theater. The first acts highlight the first stage jewelry, often from the actors’ and actresses’ own collections. Then we will be transported to the stage, where costumes and jewelry come to life in all their splendor. Finally, the last part of the exhibition highlights the great figures of the Belle Époque, such as Sarah Bernhardt, Édouard de Max And Miss Bartet, through monumental photographs.
