Two fakes hunters of the Lot (P. and B.), real poachers were rife in the territory of the communes ofAnglars-Juillac, Les Junies, Castelfranc, Lherm, Labastide-du-Vert, Goujounac, and Puy-l’Evêque…during the period from 1er July 2023 to December 19, 2023. They appeared before the Cahors criminal courtMay 23, 2024.


The two men operated at night and shot the game from their car, before falling into the nets of the Lot gendarmerie. This Thursday, June 13, 2024, the judgment has just been rendered by President Philippe Clarissou.

A litany of offenses

In terms of offenses (three offenses and four fines), P. and B. were accused of:

– unauthorized hunting in meetings, at night, with use of a vehicle and carrying a weapon,

– transport without legitimate reason of category C weapons, ammunition or their elements by at least two people,

– possession without declaration of category C weapons, ammunition or their components,

– transport of game killed using prohibited equipment or instruments,

– transport of dead game subject to the unmarked or unidentified hunting plan,

– hunting without a mandatory individual hunting plan,

– search, pursuit of game using a light source without authorization.

Added for P. is the offense of hunting without a license or authorization to hunt.

Initially, President Philippe Clarissou reported a partial nullity of the citation before stating the penalties imposed against the two defendants.

Closed prison and confiscation of materials

Against P. the court handed down a sentence of 4 months in prison, with a ban on possessing a weapon for a period of 5 years. The sentence is accompanied by a withdrawal of the hunting license for a period of 5 years, before being able to apply for it again. All materials used in the commission of the offenses are confiscated, including the vehicle used for the nighttime outings. P. also receives two fines of €100 each.

As for B., the accomplice in these poaching operations, whose role appeared to be less, he was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of 6 months. And for the rest he is inflicted with the same penalties as P. with a cancellation of his hunting license. He will also have to pay a fine of €100.

The two civil parties which were formed during this trial were deemed admissible. The Departmental Hunting Federation obtains €500 for moral damages and €800 for lawyer’s fees. For its part, the Association for the Protection of Wild Animals (ASPAS) was awarded €500 for moral damages and €4,000 for legal fees.

The two defendants have 10 days to file an appeal.
