While Languedoc viticulture questions its future, the Union of Southern Wine Companies (UEVM) has just elected its new President, Jean-Claude Mas.

With this new presidency, the ambition of the UEVM is to reaffirm the place and voice of trading houses in the economy of the Languedoc wine sector, in particular to meet the challenges of increasing competition on the markets.

“It is essential to put consumer expectations at the center of the debate. We must give trading houses the place they deserve within the wine industry and with public decision-makers. Value creation will be at the heart of this new mandate. Our homes support many women and men in our territory. They work on a daily basis to sell and promote wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon wine-growing basin,” declares Jean-Claude Mas, President of the UEVM. He continues, “We must collectively build the segmentation of our wines and work to move them upmarket. This line of work is a priority for the future of our region.”

To unite around the creation of value, the UEVM and its new President are calling for all goodwill. “We must be united and free ourselves from the divisions which weaken our sector, hamper collective intelligence and slow down our ability to build our future. I am convinced that it is in Languedoc that we produce some of the best wines in the world. We now have to make it better known,” explains Jean-Claude Mas.

Jean-Claude Mas succeeds Gilles Gally (Advini house), President of the UEVM since 2017. “Gilles has undertaken considerable work. He brought together the collective of trading houses and organized its representation in the various bodies of the sector and the Region” recalls Jean-Claude Mas.
