the essential
The Aveyron committee is impatiently awaiting its new premises on Boulevard de Flaugergues.

“On is located right next to the cemetery…”says Anne Conti, president of the League against Cancer of Aveyron. The image is not very bright and reassuring for people affected by the disease. From the Vieux Chênes impasse, the Aveyron committee is preparing to take up residence on Boulevard de Flaugergues (in place of the Procivis agency) in January 2025. “This will allow us to gain visibility”specifies Anne Conti who takes the opportunity to recall the “big mobilization of Aveyron residents” but also to point out the lack of resources. Financial and human resources.

For example, the Aveyron committee mentions breast cancer screening, to which the month of October is dedicated. A screening of 45 is advanced % or less than one in two women but this can be explained by the bottleneck of appointments with saturated slots, only one Tuesday per month.

Free activities

This access to care unfortunately affects all specialties for good care. For this reason, the League Against Cancer places emphasis on prevention (€30,000 out of a budget of €500,000) and on activities to finance its actions. In this sense, some 2,600 students were made aware last year in Aveyron about hygiene and addictions. “You should also know that €230,000 goes towards research at the oncology department in and at Inserm in .”

Of the 106 departmental committees of the League against Cancer, Aveyron offers many free activities for people with cancer thanks to these premises in , Decazeville, Laguiole, Villefranche-de-Rouergue and : psychological support, adapted physical activity, sophrology, walking, dietary advice, yoga, onco-aesthetics. This last activity mentioned, in the form of collective workshops, involved 400 people last year. The League can finally count on aid from the Department and the municipality, although it is mainly legacies and donations which ensure its functioning.

For this reason, a collection of donations will be made on December 13 at the prefecture.
