The All Saints' Day holidays ended on Sunday November 3 and the first attendance results have just been revealed this Thursday by Charentes Tourisme. The trends are rather satisfactory, after a rather complicated summer period: “Total overnight stays recorded an increase of more than 10% in Charente-Maritime. This result is explained by more favorable weather conditions than last year (rain and storms in 2023) and an advantageous calendar with the long weekend of 1is November,” explains Charentes Tourisme in a press release.
Good attendance on the islands
If tourist activity increased by more than 12.5% during the second week of the holidays, it remained stable during the first week and was mainly driven by French customers (+ 7.5%). Foreign attendance remained at the same level as last year. “The dynamism is particularly marked in island (+ 12.5%) and coastal (+ 10%) territories,” reports Charente Tourisme. Overall, French tourists present in Charente-Maritime came from Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Paris region and central France. On the foreign side, the British remain in the lead followed by the Germans and the Belgians.
Purchasing power remains limited
Tourism professionals remain mixed in any case with 53% satisfaction but a clear improvement in results compared to 2023 (38%). This feeling is part of an economic context that remains difficult. “The limited purchasing power of tourists, impacted by inflation, continues to weigh on tourist activity: 55% of professionals note a reduction in tourist spending (stable compared to 2023) and 42% report a drop in their turnover during this period,” continues Charentes Tourisme.
Regarding the Christmas holidays, the trends are similar to those of last year. In fact, nearly 40% of professionals surveyed anticipate equivalent or increased reservations (40% in 2023).
