Martin McGuire came to chat with Jérémie Rainville on 98.5 Monday evening and the subject of the column was about the Canadian team which will be sent to the 4 Nations Showdown. McGuire spoke about his top-6, three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie who should fill out a Canadian red jersey. Basically, it’s about the six essentials.
Shortly, the teams will have to give their top-6, this will happen on the Vegas side shortly before the draft which will be held in the Sphere. That said, here’s McGuire’s talk regarding Team Canada’s potential top six picks:
“The essentials there, MacKinnon, McDavid and Crosby, my three essential attackers. On defense, the Americans are going to be disgusting, but Canada still has two very good ones in Cale Makar and Evan Bouchard. Guard… Team Canada’s goalie, it’s going to be a fierce competition between Thompson, Hill, Jarry and maybe the funny sparrow, Jordan Binnington. So Samuel Montembeault is my choice for now. For the moment. A local flavor.”
As McGuire clarified, Monty has nothing to envy of Thompson or Hill. On the other hand, if Jarry has another excellent campaign, he could beat Montembeault to the finish line, according to McGuire.
As for MacKinnon, McDavid and Crosby, they are certainly the three essentials for Canada’s attack, which will be activated by Makar and Bouchard, certainly the two best Canadian crossing guards.
