This time it's too much for François Grosdidier and is determined to make himself heard by the prefecture of Moselle. The object of his anger: the illegal occupation of the parking lot of the Metz exhibition center by travelers and a problem of illegal connection to an electrical cabinet which deprived the site as well as an adjacent house of electricity.
In a press release, the president of the Eurometropolis does not mince his words:
“These actions are intolerable and have gone on for too long. Since 2020, nearly 5 million euros of investments have been decided in responsibility by metropolitan elected officials, making it possible to increase reception capacities in permanent reception areas for Travelers.
In this regard, we are the only ones in Moselle to be in compliance with the Departmental Reception and Housing Scheme for Travelers. However, this never assured us the support of the State, illegal occupations continued to multiply due to the passivity and complacency of the Prefecture“.
The message is clear, what is the Moselle prefecture doing against these actions. François Grosdidier assures that he has nothing to reproach himself for, three permanent reception areas would still be available to the community of travelers, unlike the high-traffic area closed after acts of vandalism in June 2024. A complaint was also filed at the time.
The mayor of Metz is annoyed at not having received any follow-up to this file, nor exemption for the opening of the high-traffic area despite the need for work.
When requested, the Moselle prefecture passed the responsibility on to… François Grosdidier himself!
Via an email, the state services of the department explain to us that: “92 caravans have been installed in an annex car park at Metz expo since yesterday (Wednesday November 6). This installation does not hinder access to buildings which are not currently hosting a major event. Only the reopening of the Moulins-lès-Metz high-traffic area under satisfactory security conditions will make it possible to provide a lasting solution to illicit installations. It is therefore up to Metz Métropole to act“.
This is probably not the response that the president of L'Eurométropole was expecting, who announced that he would file a complaint with a civil action against this illegal installation:
“She expects the perpetrators of this act of vandalism to be criminally prosecuted and ordered to pay damages to the Metropolis.“.
François Grosdidier also urges the prefect of Moselle to “take responsibility” by signing an administrative expulsion order. Not sure if it will be heard.
