The program was busy this Thursday, November 7, 2024, for Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq. The minister responsible for people with disabilities was visiting Calvados to talk about access to care for disabled women.
Exchanges with health professionals
The visit started at 1:30 p.m. at the Les Hauts-Vents Specialized Reception Center (MAS), in Vire Normandy (Calvados). It continued in Bayeux, to observe the medical-educational system in the Bayeux region, then at the MDPH in Caen, before ending with the Fondation de la Miséricorde. The objective was to exchange “in a haphazard way” with local health professionals.
Firstly, about the Handigynéco system. “It’s an experiment that we carried out in different territories – including Normandy and Brittany – […], explained the minister to West Francein an interview published the same day. This involves offering a gynecological care pathway dedicated to women with disabilities, welcomed in medico-social establishments. »

“Complex and delicate” consultations
A system which will be generalized throughout the territory from 2025. For good reason, the difference in access to gynecological care is still too great for these women. “The gynecological consultation is more complex and delicate for them, notes Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq. It first requires the training of professionals, which is what we are working on, in particular by supporting the development of skills of midwives. »
What Handigynéco is supposed to help with. “It is extremely important for the health of these women, but also to talk about their sexual and emotional life, which is still a taboo, and to work on the prevention of sexual violence of which they are particularly victims. » Four out of five women with disabilities have been or are victims of sexual violence, according to the minister.
