The threats were made on Facebook this Tuesday, November 5, 2024. A Mendois man was taken into police custody the next day.
Laurent Suau, the president of the Lozère departmental council, filed a complaint this Wednesday, November 6, at the Mende police station for death threats. “But kill this bastard,” This is what was written against him the day before, in the comments on a Facebook publication by MP Sophie Pantel.
The latter, oh so vehement against her successor at the head of the Department, had just shared a post from her opposition group “Lozère passionately / Departmentales 2021”, following the departmental council on Tuesday, November 5. The offending message has since been deleted.
“It could go wrong”
Just after Laurent Suau filed a complaint, the author of the message, a man living in Mende, was placed in police custody. “By always hitting people, without much foresight, we have to be wary, warns the former mayor of the Lozère prefecture. With psychologically unstable individuals, things could go wrong.”
Since the change of presidency of the departmental council on Friday August 9, the political atmosphere in Lozère has been very tense.
