It had been completely ravaged by flames. During the last municipal council of Pessac on Tuesday, November 5, elected officials unanimously approved the reinstallation of the public services platform, recently labeled “France services” house, in the Saige district. On the night of June 29 to 30, 2023, Pessac, as in many cities in France, was at the heart of violent riots following the death of Nahel.
The premises of this platform offering help to people experiencing administrative and legal difficulties were then targeted – like the municipal police station – by rioters and completely destroyed by a fire. For more than a year, its services, organized by four municipal agents, had been transferred to city hall. “The period was particularly difficult, and the agents did not fail at all,” said Franck Raynal, mayor of Pessac. Attendance at the counter [de l’hôtel de ville, NDLR] was able to witness the scale of the movement that they welcome all year round. »

Located on the ground floor of a building in the Suffren residence, these new 105 m² premises were made available by the social landlord Domofrance free of charge to the City, which will still take charge of some work. “These premises are perfectly adapted, even much more than the initial ones. However, it is necessary to make some adjustments,” assured Naji Yahmdi, deputy mayor responsible for city policy. Resettlement is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
For her part, Sylvie Bridier, an elected official from the opposition, expressed her satisfaction at seeing the public service return to the heart of this priority district while saying she was “surprised” to see that “the stigmata of the riots” were not “still not been erased from the landscape”. The elected official also encouraged the return of other local services lost during this fire, including a bank ATM and a La Poste counter. Discussions are underway with the latter for relocation according to the mayor, “but not under the same terms”.
