The suspect in Philippine's murder was handed over to French authorities as part of his extradition with a view to his indictment, franceinfo learned on Wednesday, November 6, from a source close to the investigation. Handed over to the police in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie) by the Swiss authorities, he is being transferred to Paris, where he must be presented to an investigating judge at the courthouse.
This man, aged 22, accepted last week his extradition which he had initially refused.
Under an obligation to leave French territory, he was arrested in Geneva, Switzerland, four days after the murder of Philippine, a 19-year-old student at Paris-Dauphine University found buried in the Bois de Boulogne, in western Paris, September 21.
This murder caused immense emotion in France and also a virulent public debate. The suspect was already convicted in 2021 for rape, then released in June 2024, “at the end of the sentence“, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. He was then placed in an administrative detention center in Metz. Having failed to comply with his reporting obligation, he was included in the wanted persons file the day before the murder, September 19. He was under an obligation to leave the territory at the time of the murder.
