POLITICS – Failing to have obtained power in , the French extreme right (rather discreet during the campaign) is watching with unfeigned jubilation what is happening in the United States, where Donald Trump is announced the winner against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Yet carrying a project which could deal a serious blow to the French and European economy, via an increase in “ more than 10% » customs duties on all imports, the 47th president of the United States is applauded by the nationalist camp. There are those who, like Éric Ciotti and Marion Maréchal, see this victory as a model to follow.

« Magnificent victory of the American people against a system. A hope for peace, a defeat of the wokists. A path for the right in France as in Europe. Until victory “, exclaimed the deputy for Alpes-Maritimes in a tweet very similar to that published by the niece of Marine Le Pen. A feeling of victory by proxy also shared by Éric Zemmour, but also by the RN deputy for , Nicolas Meizonnet.

« Remarkable ability of Americans to resist the powerful propaganda machine. Like a thirst for freedom, a drive for life! We bet that the French will be inspired by it », tweeted the elected official from the Gard, while several of his Lepénist colleagues seem to be more cautious. Like the deputies Philippe Schreck and Jérôme Buisson, who prefer to emphasize a “ come-back » contrary to a media story deemed too pro-Harris, or their colleague from Aude Christophe Barthès who calls to be ” vigilant to ensure that taxes impacting our wine growers are not implemented ».

Two lines

For his part, the number 2 of the RN, Louis Aliot, underlines the resilience of the multi-billionaire. “ After everything he suffered, the defeat, the hatred, the contempt, the judges, the bullets! He climbs back up and wins! What a lesson for all these trash democrats. It may not suit our interests but it is a salutary reaction to Injustice! », greeted the RN mayor of . Same measure observed for Marine Le Pen. “ American democracy was clearly expressed and the Americans freely chose the president they chose. “, she reacted, before adding banalities about “ strengthening bilateral relations and pursuing dialogue and constructive cooperation ».

A desire not to gloat too loudly that we also find in Jordan Bardella. “ Since Donald Trump invites us to defend ourselves, let's take him at his word », tweeted the president of the RN, echoing the desire expressed by several French officials to strengthen Europe in the face of the period which is opening.

Thus, we observe two lines which are expressed in the French extreme right. There are those who, identitarian and liberal, like Éric Ciotti and Marion Maréchal, express a clear admiration for the future American president, despite his escapades and the real risks that his election poses for fundamental rights, like access to abortion, or on international security, by planning a disengagement in Ukraine.

The other position, the majority in the RN, consists only of seeing in this choice a refusal of immigration and an electoral performance achieved with the wind in its face. All while expressing a (timid) caution knowing, from now on, the unpredictable character of Donald Trump and his capacity to shock French public opinion. As a reminder, according to a survey carried out in mid-October by the Elabe institute, 64% of French people wanted Kamala Harris to win.
