In the village of Erstroff, in Moselle, the new owners of a house made a macabre discovery. The skeleton of a man sought for around fifteen years was spotted in the building under construction.
A man's relatives have lost track of him since 2009. On Saturday, November 2, this case of disappearance had a sad ending.
A body found 15 years later
The remains of the individual were discovered in his former home located in MoselleSaturday, November 2. The people who acquired the property in 2023 had the unpleasant surprise of discovering the body of the missing person while renovating the accommodation. While they were looking for the source of water infiltration in the roof, they chanced upon a small room hidden under the roof. There were bones there.
A mysterious disappearance in 2009
The public prosecutor of Sarreguemines, Olivier Glady, confirmed that the body could well be that of the former owner, who disappeared in 2009 at the age of 81. At the time, extensive searches were carried out to find him. Beats were organized in the region, without success. It's as if the octogenarian has vanished without a trace. Since then, the mystery has remained unsolved. After the death of his wife in 2020, the house was put up for sale.
Evidence of death by suicide
The prosecutor also mentioned that the circumstances of the discovery suggest a possible suicide. Indeed, a rope was found hanging in the attic, which suggests this hypothesis. The skeleton was transferred to the Strasbourg Forensic Institute for definitive identification and to determine the exact causes of death.
The Forbach research brigade is continuing the investigation to establish the precise circumstances of this death. The analyzes of the Forensic Institute should provide additional answers and make it possible to definitively conclude on the identity of the individual found.
