The rear tire was visibly deflated. Saturday November 2, around 4:45 p.m., a police patrol wanted to check a vehicle on the D 137, near Les Gonds, towards Saintes. She activates her flashing lights and comes up to him. The driver sees them but accelerates. With the police on his heels, he bypasses the traffic, brushing past the cars, at the Diconche roundabout and rushes right onto the RN 141. The under-inflated tire dislocates but he continues on the D 150, towards Fontcouverte.
A second tire does not resist the portcullis placed by the police at the next roundabout. The man manages to cross Fontcouverte by taking all the risks. While driving, he calls the owner of the car. At the exit of Bussac-sur-Charente, a third tire was punctured by a police device. The chase continues towards Saint-Vaize, then Port-d'Envaux where a patrol coming as reinforcement finally manages to stop the driver, after twenty-four kilometers covered in twenty minutes.
“I panicked”
“You are going to tell us the usual expression: “I panicked”. Do you have a rational explanation? », asks Olivier Lalande who presides over the appearance before the Saintes court, Tuesday November 5. “In my head, I was thinking about my wife. She has already dotted the i's for me regarding justice. I was getting my life back together. I panicked,” replies Mohamed Dekkiche, 29 years old. Living in Saint-Loubès (33), he went to Cognac (16) to pay a deposit of 1,200 euros, a vehicle rented by his partner having been stolen.
He is a repeat offender with 15 mentions for transporting and consuming drugs and for traffic offenses. His license had been suspended since June. “Behind the facts, you must give him a chance to turn his back on his past,” argues Mr. Julien Lainé, who emphasizes that his partner is helping him in his “reconstruction.” The prosecution requested 18 months in prison, the court opted for two years, half of which was suspended for two years.
