Last Thursday late afternoon, a man living in the town of Aosta (Isère) was very lucky. As indicated by our colleagues from Dauphiné Libéréthe forty-year-old, then driving a car without a license, collided head-on with a tractor mower.
Despite the violence of the impact, the driver of the cart escaped unhurt. This is not the case for his vehicle which was decapitated during the collision, nor for the mower which is now unusable. Quickly after the accident, the police realized that the man was not in his normal state. Tests showed he had 2.38 grams of alcohol in his blood.
Immediate appearance
Tried this Monday in immediate appearance at the Bourgoin-Jallieu judicial court, the forty-year-old acknowledges an alcohol problem and says he is ready to seek treatment, while affirming that he is not at fault regarding this collision. But this does not convince the judge because he has already been convicted three times for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Faced with this observation, the court decided to sentence him to 18 months in prison, eight of which were suspended on probation, without further detention. He will also have to compensate his victims and follow a road safety awareness course. As for his driving license, it was canceled for a period of 18 months.
