In Deux-Sèvres, the months of September and October 2024 were wetter than normal for the season. The gap with the latter is 80% in September and 45% in October.

These figures correspond to an average calculated by Météo , but precipitation varies within the department. “In Gâtine, precipitation was 100 to 150% higher, which is no longer normal at all. In the north and south of the department, the differences are rather between 35% and 60%. says Loïc Taillieu, forecaster for Météo France in .

The biggest difference from seasonal norms is at the Parthenay station, where it is 150%. “The terrain plays a big role in this part of the department”indicates Loïc Taillieu.

In September, several Deux-Sévrier weather stations recorded monthly records for cumulative precipitation. “The stations concerned are recent, this explains these records”explains Loïc Taillieu. Mauléon, an active station since 2015, recorded 103.4 mm of precipitation. For the Scillé station, the record stands at 160.2 mm. The Surin station, active since 2008, broke a monthly record with cumulative precipitation of 162 mm, as well as a daily record, with 47.2 mm of precipitation falling on September 2.

The rainy episodes caused another record to be reached, that of soil humidity, on October 11.
