This Monday, November 4, in the cramped room of the Châteauroux hospital center, around fifteen interns attended the speaking of various actors from the medical field, as part of a “welcome day”. The idea? Put, of course, “focus on conviviality”. But also recall a particular context, specific to the territory in which these students are preparing to continue their training.
“I don’t want to live in the anonymity of big cities”
As the first department least well equipped with doctors in 2024, Indre, it is a fact, is also struggling to attract its young health professionals, despite local efforts. “Châteauroux is a town where life is good. But here, we are landlocked, far from everything. This is always the phrase that comes back, notes Évelyne Poupet, director of the Châteauroux hospital center, according to whom “the hardest part is building loyalty [ces étudiants] ».
Therefore, to arouse their desire to settle permanently in Indre, the latter, like Jeanne Glémot, health officer at the Indre attractiveness agency (A2I), advocates social ties.
Through the organization of theme evenings or events, the structure initiated by the departmental council seeks to “to discover Châteauroux” to these students. “The idea is also to organize a friendly, sporting or festive activity at least once a month so that you can spend as many moments together as possible. »
Dedicated WhatsApp group, themed evenings… Jeanne Glémot, health officer at the Indre attractiveness agency (A2I) presented to new interns the activities put in place to promote social ties.

“Providing a service to people I know”
An initiative appreciated by Olivier, 30, who is aiming for a position as a general practitioner. “There would be the easy solution of forcing us to stay, but here that is not the casesalutes the one for whom, unlike some of his comrades, the Châteauroux hospital is not a choice by default. I know that being in small towns scares a lot of people, but that's not my case. Besides, I don't think I'm very representative. And to argue about his desire to exercise “in the countryside” : “I like rurality. I don't want to live in the anonymity of big cities, but on the contrary, to serve people I know, with a fairly close circle of friends.”. Maurice, 30 years old, is in another situation. Of Togolese origin, the latter obtained his doctorate in Africa and is continuing his studies in France, within the framework of the FFI system (1) allowing practitioners of foreign origin to practice while waiting to obtain their equivalence.
Newly arrived in Châteauroux, the young man says he appreciates the city but explains in particular that he has to “return to the country” at the end of his one-year internship. “The routes are differentcontinues Évelyne Poupet.
