Japanese culture comes to Gard

Forging links between and the land of the rising sun: this is the objective that the region set itself by organizing the “Japan Fortnight”. An unmissable event for all lovers of Japanese culture.

From November 6 to 23, Japan invites itself throughout the Occitanie region. In total, more than 280 activities will be offered around art, gastronomy and ethnology. It’s an opportunity for young and old to discover or rediscover the keys to Japanese culture.

In the , the Japan Fortnight is oriented around several strong moments. One of the major events is the presentation of an exceptional exhibition at the Silk Museum in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fortwhich highlights this iconic material and its importance in Japanese fashion. A large collection of kimonos will be presented to the delight of visitors.

Silk is the central theme of this new edition of the Japan Fortnight. At the same time, a documentary entitled “Madame Silk Cévennes”focusing on the sericulture industry initiated by a Japanese industrialist in the region, will be broadcast several times to celebrate this theme which brings our continents together.

For more than two weeks, the Houses of my Region of Nîmes and Alès collaborate with local actors to offer the Gardois a piece of Japan close to home.
