The Rodilhan wine high school in , in collaboration with Sun'Agri and various partners, installed photovoltaic panels in the middle of the vineyards, thus creating a unique agrivoltaic installation in Occitania. This project aims to protect vines from the effects of climate change while producing renewable energy. A first experiment that combines viticulture and energy innovation.

The development of agrivoltaism is gaining ground in , and Gard is now a pioneer with the first installation of photovoltaic panels in the middle of the vineyards in Rodilhan. CThis plot growing the Viognier grape variety was planted 18 years ago and is now undergoing organic conversion. Now it is covered with an installation of adjustable solar panels, intended to protect the vines from extreme weather conditions. This project aims to study the impact of agrivoltaism on wine crops, for the future of viticulture in Occitania.

The Rodilhan agrivoltaic installation marks a turning point in regional agricultural research. In collaboration with the French Institute of Vine and Wine (IFV) and the Gard Chamber of Agriculture, this experimental device explores how the modular shading of panels can help reduce the effects of global warming. The researchers will also study the influence of this sun protection on the aromas of the white wine produced from this plot.by carrying out micro-vinifications and testing various technical routes.

The installation in Rodilhan in the Gard

The photovoltaic panels were then considered in the following way:

  • New generation steel framework : designed in partnership with Momsteel, this structure minimizes the visual impact and the artificialization of the soil, ensuring better landscape integration.
  • Advanced piloting systems : a new anti-hail device and intelligent trackers make it possible to orient the panels according to weather conditions, thus optimizing the protection of the vines and energy production.
  • Respect for existing cultures : by limiting ground disturbance, this installation has been designed to integrate perfectly with the viognier vines, ensuring their preservation throughout the construction and operation phase.

In addition to being a research project, this installation is an educational experience for students from the Rodilhan wine high school. They are involved in the management of this agrivoltaic plot and thus acquire valuable skills in sustainable agronomy and energy technologies, which will be essential for future professionals in the rapidly transforming wine sector.
