On September 19, 2024, during a maneuver, an employee of the Société Industrielle et Laitière du Léon (Sill) dumped part of a load of soda into the Aber Benouic, a stream which crosses the factory site in Plouvien (29). In the hours following the incident, 400 fish (salmonids and eels) were found dead downstream from the site, over a stretch of approximately 1 km.
After an investigation carried out by state services, Alain Espinasse, prefect of Finistère, signed an order, dated October 25, putting the company on notice to comply with regulations relating to the retention of dangerous fluids in its factory located at a place called Le Raden.
A period of one month
By this decree, the Sill must therefore “comply with the provisions relating to the prevention of accidental risks within installations for the protection of the environment, for all bulk storage of chemicals and check the positioning of loading areas and unloading of dangerous materials.
The operator now has a period of one month from notification of the order to transmit to the prefect and the inspection of classified installations (DDPP) the elements justifying the execution of these requirements, by proposing a compliance schedule.
