Visit to the Lot Study Society in Pompignan – Le Petit Journal

40 members made the trip to Tarn-et-Garonne Credits: “Let’s save the heritage of POMPIGNAN”

On Sunday June 2, Pompignan had the honor of welcoming the Société d’Études du Lot, an association founded in 1872. Chaired by Marc Lecuru, former mayor of Cahors, the association brought together around 40 members for one of their three annual outings, this time in Tarn-et-Garonne. The welcome took place at 10:30 a.m., orchestrated by the president of the Pompignan Heritage Association, Mr. Dumoutier, who warmly welcomed the Lot visitors. He highlighted their common interest in the Marquis de Pompignan, famous owner of a castle in Caïx, commune of Luzech, and highlighted some little-known but important figures from Pompignan. Jacques Carral, member of the society and academician, presented with Mr. Dumoutier a detailed history of Pompignan, the fruit of the work of the history commission of the Heritage Association. This presentation was followed by a guided tour of the church led by Mr. Michel Ribes and Mr. Carral. The restoration efforts initiated by the town hall and the preservation association have been praised, although the call for new patrons remains crucial to continue the work. The association “Sauvons le Patrimoine de Pompignan” then offered an aperitif around a glass of Fronton. Lunch was held in Granada, before Mr. Penaveyre welcomed participants for a guided tour of the castle. The enlightened comments from Mr. Carral, Mr. Frenois, a specialist in neo-classical decorations, and the owner of the premises enchanted the visitors. The day ended at 5 p.m., with the two associations promising to meet again soon for new cultural and historical discoveries.
