“Episodes of strong wind in Seine-Maritime are something that we know well since about once a year, there is this type of meteorological event”explains Lieutenant-Colonel Valérie Fillebien, about storm Ciaran, which blew over, among other lands, Normandy, just a year ago. “We carried out around 680 interventions over the three days, between November 1 and 3.”
On the question of anticipating this storm, Valérie Fillebien explains that she is “in contact with weather experts”. “We have two weather experts within the Seine-Maritime firefighters, who provide us with their assistance, this allows us to predict the different possible event scenarios and to choose the best action strategies, they help us to anticipate, because to help well is already to plan.” Our guest also tells us to encourage mayors to “develop and work on” their municipal safeguarding plans, to be well prepared in the event of events.
Valérie Fillebien also explains that firefighters are adapting and evolving their intervention practices with climate change.
