Thursday October 24, 2024, nine o'clock, four young people from Ducey-Les Chéris, in South Manche, were hard at work on Boulevard Jean-Baptiste-Delivet, opposite the retirement home.
Each equipped with a blower, an engine in a backpack, they did not play as hunters, as in the famous Ghostbusters film, Ghost Busters, released in the United States in 1984.
they pushed the dead leaves into mounds, which a technical services agent swallowed up with a giant vacuum cleaner. At the same time, two teenage girls were repainting the sports room of the nursery and primary schools.
Five mornings to improve the living environment
This is their fourth morning of participation in the Pocket Money scheme, offered by the municipal team to six young people aged 16 to 18, living in the town.
“They participate in local projects to improve the living environment of residents,” explains Philippe Muriel, the youth worker. They committed, for the week, to cleaning the schools, participating in the planting with the flower agents, before weeding the cemetery. These projects take place during each school holiday period, except at the end of the year.
Words from young people committed to their community
Mathis, 16, has already participated in summer camps. “It was the money that decided me,” he admits, without yet knowing what he will do with it.
Arthur, also 16 years old, is on the prowl. He participated in the summer work and did not hesitate when he received an email asking him to renew his commitment to the community. “For my CV, it will be good to show my experiences. I will re-register again, depending on my desires and my availability.”
Léonard, 17 years old, is present for the first time. “It’s good that young people help the town hall and also participate in the life of the town. During the holidays, in the morning, we don’t necessarily do much.” And it's not being on duty at 8:30 a.m. that poses a problem for him, he assures us. The twenty euros he earns daily, he knows what he will do with them. “It will allow me to save for my architectural studies in Caen or Rennes. It’s very selective, if you’re not taken, it’s not because you’re bad, it’s because there are better ones…” he adds before continuing his task.
In the morning, when we get up, we know that we are going to do something good.
Diego, 16, is a well-known face of community involvement. Youth municipal councilor, he was re-elected on Saturday October 19. He was therefore well aware of the existence of this help for young people. “It’s a way of participating in municipal life, outside of the municipal council. I motivated a friend, we came together. In the morning, when we get up, we know that we are going to do something good. » The high school student does not hide his interest in public life. “I would like to study law and politics. The needs of the people, of the city… that motivates me.”
The collective is built together, everyone has their part to contribute.
For the winter holidays, the pre-registration file will be collected from the town hall or on the municipality's website, from February 7 to 11, 2025. Registrations will be recorded in order of arrival.
