It has been almost 10 years since the Villeneuvois athletics team had not stood on a national podium. She returned to success and won the bronze medal in the finals of the National 2 championship.

A great achievement for the minimal team at the Villeneuvois athletics stadium ESVMAC.

The Nationale 2 finals took place in Niort. The athletes from the bastide came to battle with the 15 clubs in this final, with the secret hope of doing as well as their predecessors who entered the top 5.

It is true that in this category it has been almost 10 years since the Villeneuvois were at the foot of the podium. The athletes dear to President Schiefer, motivated as never before, have accumulated performances and records. After 8 hours of competition, the result is in: Stade Villeneuvois finishes with a bronze medal! A real achievement, and if the club could have presented a young certified judge, it would not have lost 30 points, and the team would have taken first place. It is the law of sport, victory on the field and third administratively.

It should be noted that all the club’s athletes entered the final, and the majority left with a new record.

Took first place: Zoé Jagueneau in the 1,000m with 3m08, Eloïse Soulacroix with 31s48 in the 200 hurdles, Tiago Granereau with 3m in the pole vault.

Zélie Caballé in the 2,000 m with 7m18 took 2nd place.

And in third place we find Sacha Stabik in the hammer with 38m50, Ivan Rey in the 1000m with 2m51, Émilie Martin in the triple jump with 9m98 and Anna Gireaudeau with 2m50 in the pole vault.

Only personal bests, these young people have surpassed themselves for their team and their club.

Very naturally, a small awards ceremony took place at the stadium with Eléa Aubert carrying the Olympic flame and vice-world champion in ultra-combined.

To the great pleasure of the city representatives who came to congratulate the athletes, Mayor Guillaume Lepers, his deputy for sport Michel Laville and David Despin, sports director.

President Schiefer says it and repeats it every day. “We have real values of sharing, conveyed in a sporting spirit by our executive coaches, managers, judges and volunteers who are the strength of the club.”
