SENEGAL-AGRICULTURE-TRAINING / Bambey: 40 horticultural producers trained in administrative and financial management – Senegalese press agency

Bambey, June 4 (APS) – Training on “administrative, financial and gender management of horticultural areas” opened on Tuesday at the National Agronomic Research Center (CNRA) in Bambey (Diourbel, center) for the benefit of forty horticultural producers from farms set up by the support program for the national agricultural investment program of Senegal (PAPSEN).

“The training that brings us together aims to provide horticultural producers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for the management of horticultural farms while taking into account gender for sustainable and profitable conduct of activities in the area covered by the PAPSEN/center”, explained the regional coordinator of the central zone of the said program, Kalidou Kane, noting that the participants come from the regions of Thiès Diourbel and Fatick.

The specific objective, he indicated, is to strengthen the capacities of horticultural producers in gender and administrative and financial management with a view to improving the economic and institutional performance of the areas set up within the framework of PAPSEN.

Likewise, the 4-day session aims to “strengthen governance, associative communication and planning of activities as well as accounting management of farms”, he added.

“The participants will multiply the training received for other producers on their farms to ensure a positive impact on improving the horticultural performance of irrigated farms,” he underlined.

Mr. Kane noted that out of a target of 400 hectares of irrigated areas with the drip system to be implemented, the PAPSEN/center program has so far developed more than 100 hectares in these three intervention regions.

He also announced the imminent launch of work on twenty turnkey horticultural farms to enable producers to work well.
