Guyana: More medical imaging on the Guyanese coast, first offer of private psychiatry, interventional radiology, development projects of health groups presented to the ARS

Among the projects presented, we can cite the increase in the number of MRIs in Guyana, the first offer of psychiatry in the private sector, as well as the implementation of interventional radiology in the three public hospitals. This is the first time that the Csos has been required to issue opinions since the reform of the activity and heavy equipment authorization system, and that its members have used electronic voting to decide on files.

The majority of requests concerned medical imaging, with interventional radiology projects throughout the Guyanese coast. The hospitals of Cayenne, Kourou and Saint-Laurent du Maroni have thus submitted an authorization request for mention A, which includes interventional radiology procedures by endovenous and percutaneous route, as well as deep infiltrations, punctures, biopsies and organ drainage. The Cayenne hospital has also requested authorizations for mentions B, C and D, which cover more specialized and therapeutic procedures.

With regard to diagnostic imaging, authorizations no longer relate to equipment but to installation sites, which makes it possible to benefit from more complete technical platforms. Several establishments have therefore requested MRI and CT scanner authorizations, which could increase the number of MRIs in Guyana from four to nine.

Finally, the Csos also studied psychiatry projects, which are now organized around four modalities: adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry and care without consent. CHC and CHOG have submitted applications for the four modalities, while SAS Canopée (Rainbow group) has requested authorizations for adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry in its future clinic in Cayenne. If authorized, this would be the first private hospital psychiatry offer in Guyana.

Authorized project leaders will then have three years to start their execution and four years for their implementation, that is to say to welcome their first patient.
