Four young people aged 16 to 20 died in a traffic accident which took place this Sunday night in Libourne (Gironde). An investigation has been opened for “manslaughter”. Other vehicles could be involved.
It was a terrible tragedy that unfolded on the night of Sunday, June 2, in the town of Libourne (Gironde). In the middle of the night, a vehicle which had five passengers and which was traveling on a secondary road suddenly left the roadway, before hitting a tree. Four of the five passengers in the car died. The fifth, injured, is currently hospitalized. La Dépêche du Midi returns in several points to what happened.

A vehicle traveling with five people – aged 16 to 20 – on departmental road 1089 in Libourne (Gironde) was involved in an accident. As indicated by our colleagues from South West, the vehicle left the roadway after losing control at a roundabout. The car subsequently ended up in a tree.
Three of the passengers in the vehicle died from the shock. SMUR (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure) teams intervened on site around 3 a.m. A fourth victim, the youngest passenger, just 16 years old, was treated in worrying condition. The young man was pronounced dead this Sunday morning. A fifth victim, suffering from multiple trauma, is currently hospitalized.

In the vehicle were two young men aged 20, two passengers aged 19, and another person aged 16. According to our colleagues, the five passengers in the damaged car are from the town of Coutras (Gironde) and the surrounding area.

The road exit took place on departmental road 1089 in Libourne, near a roundabout. According to South Westa serious traffic accident took place here several months ago.
How is the investigation progressing?
The police quickly went to the scene of the accident. On site, alcohol and drug tests were carried out on the victims. The mayor of the town, Philippe Buisson – then traveling in Germany – for his part spoke of “circumstances [qui] unfortunately seem extremely more complex than a simple road accident” on the social network Facebook. The circumstances of this accident remain unknown, but an investigation has in fact been opened for “manslaughter”.
