Gmail: Gemini AI arrives on Google’s mailbox

AI continues its progressive technological invasion, joining Gmail. But to do what ?

A brand new sidebar will appear on Gmail. This will be equipped with Gemini, Google’s AI. It will allow you to do everything that a generative AI can do, from summarizing your emails to writing them.

Gmail already offers suggestions for automatic responses to messages, and these should be transformed thanks to Gemini, since the AI intends to anticipate the user’s needs by making suggestions even before he does not make his own request.

So, will the arrival of Gemini transform all our email interactions into a series of automated messages? Probably not. And one good reason for that, to begin with, is that Gemini simply won’t be accessible to all Gmail users.

As The Verge explains, you will indeed need to subscribe to one of Google’s subscriptions which offer access to the paid version of Gemini (namely certain Google Workspace or Google One offers). These subscriptions are very often dedicated to professional use, and yet the English-speaking media advises against using Gemini emails for work due to the risk of hallucinations by the AI. It is true that even if you have the email written by an AI, that will not exempt you from rereading it!

We can still expect AI to be particularly popular in replacing the automated responses that already exist and are often sent when absent. Regardless, AI has not finished invading services and applications…
