MONTREAL — UQAM support employees approved by 97% the agreement in principle that was reached with management regarding the renewal of their collective agreement, reports CUPE.

The union of employees of the University of Quebec in Montreal is attached to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ. It has nearly 1000 members, including professionals, office, trade and technical employees.

Exceptionally, the collective agreement will last for eight years, from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2031.

An increase has already been granted on April 1, 2023. Subsequent increases will be 2.8% on April 1, 2024, 2.6% on April 1, 2025, 2.5% on April 1, 2026 and 3.5%. on April 1, 2027. For the years 2028 and following, an increase of 2.25% is planned or the increase provided for in the government’s salary policy, if it is more generous, reports CUPE.

The union also claims to have obtained gains in overtime and bonuses.

Also, “employees who do not telework will be entitled to a condensed schedule of four days or to a fixed annual amount of $500,” adds CUPE in a press release.

University management did not want to confirm or comment on the content of the agreement in principle, since it has not yet been presented to the board of directors. It should be soon.

However, she said she welcomed “with great satisfaction” the union members’ decision to ratify this agreement in principle.
