Unprecedented demonstration, this Saturday, May 25, 2024: around thirty cyclists leaving from Buzet joined those coming from Agen on the canal greenway.

All these athletes, experienced or beginners, then met at the Domaine de Barolle, in the town of Montesquieu. Marylène Paillarès, vice-president of the departmental council in charge of sport, explains the reasons for this gathering: “2024 is the year of the Olympic Games. In addition, the Tour de France will stop in our department. It was therefore only natural to organize this cycling festival, which is part of the national May by Bike operation.” Finally, the vice-president recalled that, for three years, the sports caravan has been crisscrossing the department.

The Domaine de Barolle, which is located near the greenway halfway between Buzet and Agen, and which belongs to the departmental council, was the ideal place to meet. A visit to the site was organized, stands for all audiences, musical entertainment and… the sun! All the ingredients were there for a pleasant afternoon. Elected officials (including the president of the departmental council Sophie Borderie and senator Michel Masset) came to support this demonstration. The director of the estate Jérôme Ossard and its president Danièle Dhélias presented the activities of the site: “We cultivate here around 2,000 varieties of Aquitaine fruit trees. Some are sold to the arboricultural sector. We are working on the reduction of treatment products and on the adaptation of plants to climate change.” After celebrating cycling, the Barolle estate will participate in the “Tree Festival” which will take place on November 24.
