In a letter dated October 16, 2024l’Departmental interprofessional association of retirees of the CFTC union of Manche (ADIR CFTC 50) alert deputies and senators of the department on the fate of retirees.

We ask you to intervene, to be firm and uncompromising in the face of this ineptitude, this absurdity which would like us to further and above all penalize those who already have so much difficulty living with dignity.

The 2025 budget in sight

The anger of unionists follows the finance bill and the Social Security 2025 financing bill presented on October 10, 2024 in the council of ministers, and to more than 60 billion euros in savings to achieve.

“We are surprised and scandalized by the financial situation of the country”, they comment towards the Manche parliamentarians.

Revaluations postponed again

Among the measures initially mentioned, some, considered “unfair” by the Manche union, concern retirees.

Exceptional contributions will be imposed on wealthy households and large businesses in the country due to our colossal debt. But this will also be the case for retirees who will see their revaluation from January 1st postponed to July 1st. The Barnier government considers retirees at the same level as wealthy households, and this is surprising.

For the Manche union, which is committed to defense of the least well-off retireesthe question of revaluation is a sensitive subject.

“We have already lost a year of revaluation of our pensions between 2009 and 2019, with postponements of revaluation under the Sarkozy-Fillon, Hollande-Valls and Macron-Philippe era,” recalls the ADIR CFTC 50. Not to mention the freezing of our pensions several times in recent years. Governments have changed since 2007 but bad habits persist! »

More fragile retired women

In his June 2024 reportthe Retirement Orientation Council indicated that “the standard of living of retirees is currently generally equivalent to that of the entire population”.

In September 2024, the association Little Brothers of the Poor nuanced, in its annual report devoted to the poverty of the elderly: “Poverty continues to increase among seniors”, “more than half of them being elderly women. »

Nearly two million of us live below the poverty line, and the majority of them are women with up-and-down careers, part-time work, and salary increases lower than those of men…

According to ADIR CFTC 50, retirees find themselves in a situation of “unloved by ”, “budget eaters”, “even harmful to our society”.

We too quickly forget the “volunteer work” that we offer to our society. Between 40 and 110 hours [de bénévolat effectué par retraité en moyenne, NDLR] per year represent between 0.3 and 1.4 billion euros according to an INSEE survey in 2020!
