“There is no trust.” Jean-Michel Mamert and Claude Delaire, elected dissidents from the majority list, Nathalie Forestier, Didier Gatinel and Dominique Lagarde, elected in the opposition, submitted, Wednesday May 22, their letter of resignation to the sub-prefecture of Libourne and the were also sent to the mayor of Lussac, Dorothée Breton. They justified their decision in an inflammatory document distributed to the municipality’s mailboxes.

The town has experienced tense political life for four years. “We are at the end of our journey, in this mandate that began in the tumult and confusion of a mayor who was not the one chosen by the voters,” they write, a reminder of the ouster of Frédéric Vauthier, head of the list in 2020, during the mayoral election.

The last straw, they explain, was the public meeting on May 3. “We were faced with the fait accompli of the definitive choice of a renovation project” of Place de la République, “a million-euro project.” “We can no longer validate this situation,” continue the resigners. Such a structuring project for local life must obtain the broadest approval of the people of Lussac.”

What consequences?

Dorothée Breton received the letters at the end of the week, she confirms. “I acknowledged receipt of the resignations which I forwarded to the prefecture. The procedure will now take its course. No further comments at this time. » The first magistrate, however, sent a letter to the press warning against the “potentially defamatory and/or misleading” comments contained in the open letter, reserving the right to “take the necessary legal measures against her”.

What will be the consequences of these resignations? The municipal council now only has nine councilors out of 15. The majority list has exhausted all of its members, the opposition list still has nine names available.
