On the occasion of the 18th Nature Festival, a major national event dedicated to nature organized each year to echo the International Biodiversity Day (May 22), several labeled sites Sensitive natural areas by the Department of Lot-et-Garonne open to the public at the end of May.

The managers of these sites offer free activities to discover the natural heritage of our department and better understand the principles of biodiversity.

The program of upcoming events in sensitive natural areas

  • Étang de la Mazière National Nature Reserve in Villeton : Dragonflies and Demoiselles, Thursday May 23 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sensitive Natural Area of ​​Rieucourt in Pinderes : naturalist walk in the ENS, Friday May 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Alose Spawning National Nature Reserve, The Agen Passage : Come see that bull(e)!, until Friday May 24 from midnight to 2 a.m.; Big shad, where are you going? Saturday May 25, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Coteaux de Pech de Pasture in Pinel Hauterive : orchids and lime lawns, Saturday May 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Coteau de Peyroutet to Moncrabeau : wander the Coteau de Peyroutet to discover the Orchids, Saturday May 25 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday May 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • In addition to these ENS, the Departmental Council wanted to highlight other remarkable spaces to discover absolutely whose project it supports and which also organize activities, in particular the national forest of Mas d’Agenais, but also the Coteaux de Thézac this week. Several appointments are still given: at the Layrac gravel pit, naturalist discovery of a rehabilitated gravel pit, Saturday May 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; on the nature site of ArTerre Garonne-Nature/Arto Vivi Lac du Salabert in Lacépède, Arpentez l’Arterre, Saturday May 25 at 9:45 a.m.; at the Domaine de Souliès and at the Egrégore gallery in Reunion, stroll through the Souliès maze, Friday May 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the call of the dragonflies – Friday May 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (You must register in advance to benefit from these free activities, directly with the managers (more information on www.lotetgaronne.fr)).

Rieucourt, an example

The Department has chosen to make the Sensitive Natural Area Rieucourtthe first ENS of which it is entirely the owner, an exemplary site largely dedicated to public awareness.

On these 34 hectares, located in the immediate vicinity of the Center Parcs “Landes de Gascogne”, a preservation, restoration and development plan has been designed to renature the spaces and offer exceptional environments to see.

The site was inaugurated this Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the course of discovery opening to the public following.
