Three young men were killed during a fight that escalated in Montreal

Three young people, one of whom was only 15 years old, were killed Tuesday evening when a fight turned ugly on Plateau-Mont-Royal, in Montreal. The suspects in this case are still at large.

The police were first called around 7 p.m. Tuesday to go to an alley located between Saint-André and Mentana streets. When officers arrived on scene, they found three youths who had been injured by a sharp object.

The three victims, aged 15, 23 and 25, were transported to hospital, where their condition was considered critical. Wednesday morning, the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) confirmed that all three had died.

According to information and testimonies available to the police, the three victims were seriously injured during a scuffle a few steps from Neighborhood Post 38 of the SPVM, located rue Rachel. Around fifteen people were involved in the brawl, according to police.

At a press briefing, the commander of the Major Crimes Section of the SPVMJean-Sébastien Caron insisted on the fact that these murders resulted from a fortuitous event and were not part of an upsurge in gang wars or turf wars of organized crime in Montreal.

The three victims are known to police circles, Commander Caron nevertheless confirmed, speaking on the show All one morningon ICI Première, without giving further details on their identity.

The commander added that the people involved know each other and that the three victims most likely took part in the conflict.

Search for suspects

The other people present during the fight fled before the police arrived on the scene.

Wednesday morning, SPVM was still searching for a dozen suspects in connection with this case. A command post was deployed near the crime scene to facilitate the work of investigators.

According to agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for SPVM, the police have testimonies and images from surveillance cameras which could contribute to the investigation. Investigators also checked area hospitals to see if anyone had showed up there overnight with injuries related to this event.

Investigators received assistance from forensic identification technicians and the canine squad during the analysis of the crime scene. A command post was still on site at the time of writing.

Rue Rachel is still closed in both directions between avenue Christophe-Colomb and rue Saint-André.

Seven people were killed in the territory of SPVM over the last ten days. According to the commander of the major crimes section, all these murders, three of which have been solved so far, are not linked to each other.
