Cycling: Tarn rider Lilian Calmejane retires

Lilian Calmejane will no longer be in the professional peloton in 2025. At 31, the Tarnais confirmed this Friday morning on social networks that he is retiring from sports. A carefully considered decision, which he had already started to announce to those around him.

During these nine seasons at the highest level, the rider from Saint-Juéry won two stage victories on Grand (in the resort of Les Rousses on the Tour de 2017and on the 2016 Vuelta).

He also tried to win the Tour of Italy, but failed. He confided this dream of victory in the Giro at France Bleu . Last spring, on the 2024 edition, he still managed to wear the blue jersey of best climber for one day.

“For several years, I have felt cramped”

I no longer find my place in the World Tour peloton” declares Lilian Calmejane on social networks, lucid about her physical condition. “I have always seen this job as a unique opportunity in which I can combine pleasure and professionalism but for several years, I have felt cramped and less fulfilled (…) I am happy and relieved to close this chapter“.

During her career, Lilian Calmejane supported the riders of three teams: Direct Énergie (which became Total Direct Énergie), then AG2R Citroën Team and finally Intermarché-Wanty.

The Albigensian is currently racing his last race in China: the Tour of Guangxi. He wears bib number 81… like the Tarn department.
