Thunderstorms: Gers, the most struck department in France this Sunday, May 5

the essential
This Sunday, May 5, the Gers department experienced the highest electrical activity in the French sky with a major stormy spell which caused little damage. The storms should return this Tuesday before giving way, at the end of the week, to a more summery climate.

The first weekend of May was not necessarily what we expected. Rain, wind and storms descended on the Gers department to create gloomy weather worthy of the month of October. This Sunday, May 5, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., no less than 1,518 lightning strikes were recorded in the Gers sky by the Keraunos platform, including 46 in Auch, which makes Gers the department which experienced the highest electrical activity in the French sky this Sunday. In 2023, the city with the most lightning strikes in France in 2023 was Condom.

Weather: the most struck city in France in 2023 is in the Gers

A few mudslides, two closed departmental roads, but little damage in the end and above all, temperatures which suggested a return of clearing for the start of the week. Hopes dashed for a gray Monday in Gascony. The clouds still threatened the horizon and a few showers refreshed the fields which had just been sown.

On the Vigicrue side, nothing to report, the lights are green throughout the Gers territory, the rivers have not overflowed.

This Tuesday, May 7, however, mother nature could well decide otherwise. In a humid and cool north and northwest flow, the weather should remain choppy over a large southern part according to Météo France. Showers will sometimes be accompanied by thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Sufficient forecasts to place Gers on yellow alert (between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.), just like 34 other departments of the metropolis.

In terms of temperatures, the minimums will stagnate between 11 and 12 degrees at the start of the morning and during the night. For maximums, you should expect temperatures not to exceed 16 degrees.

The return of good weather for the weekend

Wednesday morning, cloud cover is expected throughout the territory. A phenomenon which will give way to clearings in the afternoon and some scattered rain in the east. Temperatures will vary between 12 and 19 degrees during the day.

The clouds will be more discreet at the end of the week and the weather will be enough to delight the partygoers for this weekend of bands in Condom. The mercury will gradually rise from Thursday which will still maintain seasonal temperatures. On Friday, the sun will illuminate Gascony. Between 12 and 13 degrees are expected for the minimums and between 26 and 27 degrees are expected in the afternoon for the maximums.

Weather: don’t be fooled by the rain falling this Monday! The sun and mildness will return for the Ascension Bridge

A trend which should be confirmed on Saturday and Sunday with the possibility of reaching the 30 degree mark in the middle of the afternoon. A summer season which is getting a little ahead, but which is certainly not expected to last, because the weather could be rather humid with fairly frequent rainy spells from Monday May 13.

Although sunscreen may be out for this Ascension Bridge, you will still need to keep your raincoat and umbrella close by.
