The most attentive motorists may have seen it. For several weeks, three sectors of Lognes (Seine-et-Marne) have been equipped with a system of video verbalizationan effective device since the Wed-September 2024.

Why video verbalization?

Those who frequent certain areas of Lognes know that parking can be anarchicsome not hesitating to simply park in the middle of the road, if they cannot find a space within two steps of their destination.

From this observation, the Lognes town hall decided to tester video reporting: using video surveillance cameras, officers can report parking-related offenses remotely.

“The selection was made by analyzing the areas where we notice parking problems. Eight sectors were therefore identified, and we had authorization from the prefect to set up this system. We wanted to launch an experiment in three sectors,” indicates the mayor of Lognes, Nicolas Delaunay.

Thus, Place Charles-Cros, Boulevard Camille Saint-Saëns/Allée Voltaire, and Rue du Suffrage Universel are already affected by this system, announced in particular by signs. What is concerned? “Dangerous parking is fined, that is to say in double file, on a pedestrian crossing…”, he continues.

The town hall did not need to hire an additional agent, since one person is already permanently behind the screens. However, this does not mean that agents will no longer be on the ground.

As proof, offenses linked to the blue zone, in particular, will always be punished by an agent on sitetechnology does not allow this to be done remotely.

A review in a few months

All this came together gradually placeafter a period of awareness. “The vote took place last June. The municipal police did education throughout the summer, and the town hall talked about it, until the actual implementation,” recalls the city councilor.

It is clear that this seems useful: in two weeks, around 150 VPmainly in the Charles-Cros sector, had already been drawn up, underlines the mayor.

It therefore remains to be seen if behavior changes over the weeks, so that parking be more organized. At least that is the aim of the town hall: “the objective is for people to stop parking willy-nilly”, insists Nicolas Delaunay.

In a few months, an assessment will be drawn from this experiment. If it proves conclusive, the system could be extended to other sectors, notably at Cours des Lacs, rue de la Tour-d’Auvergne or rue Nicolas-Appert… In short, other points where parking could improve.

Who gets the money from the fines?

Little is known, but the money from fines given by the municipal police does not go into the coffers of the municipality, but into those of the State. The town hall only receives a small part, calculated by the State.
