A small delegation from the Gourin association Bretagne TransAmerica stayed in Canada, from September 24 to October 4, following in the footsteps of the families from central who created Gourin-City in Alberta in 1914.

A ceremony took place on Sunday, September 29 in Gourin-City for the 110th anniversary of the settlement of the Ulliac, Duigou, Le Rouzic, Cospérec families in the province of Alberta in Canada.

Two flags were created; one by the Breton delegation and which was handed over, then hoisted jointly with that of the Alberta community…; the other was given to the Breton delegation by the Albertans to be exhibited at the Château de Tronjoly in Gourin in Brittany.

These two new symbols represent the desire for collaboration between the two communities. Gourin-Alberta is located in the commune of Plamonton about 1 hour 30 minutes north of Edmonton, the capital of Alberta.

Representatives of Bretagne Transamerica also visited the cemetery where Canadian pioneers are buried, the Plamondon museum where old tools and the history of the town are kept, the old Gourin school, Marie-Louise’s house and Joseph Ulliac…
