Mayotte recruits health professionals during the National General Medicine Days in

The needs of the population of Mayotte in the health sector are numerous. If nothing is done, the territory could ultimately transform into a medical desert. To meet the challenge of recruiting health professionals, Mayotte had a stand on the occasion of the National General Medicine Days in , an event which brings together around 1,000 general practitioners each year. “We are taking advantage of this event to actively promote professions in shortage and attract talent ready to take on local health challenges,” explains the Delegation of Mayotte in Paris, which represents the Departmental Council. The Department was not the only one present at the “Mayotte Recruits” stand since the Regional Health Agency and the Mayotte PMI had also made the trip to Paris. The needs are colossal and concern all sectors of health: general practitioners, emergency doctors, specialists, midwives, anesthetists and operating room nurses, speech therapists, orthoptists, physiotherapists, as well as professionals in the social professions.

During the two days of this show, the emphasis was placed on professions in tension. “ The Department of Mayotte urgently needs around thirty doctors for the PMI, the ASE, the Directorate of Autonomy and Social Benefits, as well as for the MDPH”underlines the Delegation of Mayotte. Visitors who visited the Mayotte stand were able to interact with health professionals in order to “discover the advantages and characteristics of medicine on our territory », Specifies the ARS. This is not the first time that Mayotte has participated in this type of event to recruit health professionals. This approach shows that Mayotte is not necessarily a destination of choice for practicing, but that local actors do not remain idly faced with this observation. The territory faces a lack of attractiveness due to a well-known local context. Many Mahorais give up treatment because practitioners are not necessarily present in the area or the waiting list for an appointment is so long that the choice is often made to forgo treatment. Let us hope that these steps will bear fruit.
