Tuesday, September 24, Karine Boissou, deputy to the South District, in charge of the Ecological Transition, was awarded the “Territoire Engagé pour la Nature” label for the City of .

This distinction awarded by the Regional Biodiversity Agency recognizes communities which are part of a process of progress and act in favor of biodiversity.

In Arras, the fight against the effects of climate change is one of our priorities and permeates all of our public policies: today, all our projects are designed to integrate the issues of preserving biodiversity and returning nature in the city. This also involves paying great attention to raising awareness among Arrageois. This distinction recognizes these efforts and encourages us to further develop our actions.“, explains Karine Boissou.

The “Territory Committed to Nature” label rewards the actions of the City of Arras:

In favor of knowledge:

carrying out localized fauna/flora inventories with students and Communal Biodiversity Atlas project to identify all the animal and plant species in the territory.

In favor of the protection and restoration of local biodiversity:

demineralization and revegetation of schoolyards initiated since 2022, creation of shared gardens in the city’s neighborhoods with planting of fruit trees, melliferous hedges and rainwater recovery.

In favor of territorial management:

  • integration of plantings in parking lots and streets, creation of a new urban park, planting of 500 trees and shrubs each year,
  • integration of green roof projects on public buildings such as the town hall, multiplication of facade greening actions with the “Let’s green our walls” operation and strengthening of municipal ecological corridors (Green and Blue Frame).

In favor of civic education about nature:

  • creation in 2022 of the first educational pond, launch of neighborhood walks to introduce residents to vegetation and the differentiated management carried out by municipal services, nature activities in schools and leisure centers, supplemented by conferences for the general public around national events (Great count of garden birds, Fete des Mares, Beaver Spring…)
  • launch in September 2024 of the first bike ride on the theme of water, launch in fall 2024 of permaculture training workshops.
