“The shattered blue wave”: Paul Magnette welcomes the good results of the socialists in the municipal elections

Belgians went to the polls this Sunday for the municipal elections. Some results are final, others not yet. Still, the president of the Socialist Party, Paul Magnette, says he is very satisfied with the results recorded by the Reds, even in municipalities where they were in difficulty.

The results are not final, but we have a smile tonight“, says Paul Magnette at our microphone. He continues: “We were told of a blue wave that was going to sweep over Wallonia and Brussels like in June. We were told that we were going to kick out the socialists and we see that on the contrary, we remain first wherever we already were. In Brussels, in Molenbeek, in Saint-Gilles, in Evere. Same thing in Wallonia, in Seraing, in Herstal, in Mons, in Binche, in La Louvière, in Charleroi.

A real relief for the outgoing mayor Carole. “It’s a relief everywhere, we see this evening that the blue wave has smashed against the red wall and that we are making very clear progress in four months.

According to him, this is the result of lessons learned since the federal elections of June 9: “This is proof that citizens trust the socialists (…) but also that many who voted MR or Engagés are today disappointed, have understood that the change they were promised is not the change that they wanted, and therefore are already coming back to us.

As for Charleroi, the mayor persists and signs, he will not run for a third term: “We will soon be able to announce that the next mayor is Thomas Dermine.”
