Zurich Airport traffic figures for September 2024 show that 2,947,964 passengers passed through Switzerland’s largest airport during this month. This corresponds to an increase of 5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to September 2019, the number of passengers for the month under review is 102%.

In September 2024, the number of local passengers stood at 2,100,949. The share of transit passengers was 29%, which corresponds to 841,034 passengers.

The number of air movements increased by 2% compared to the same month of the previous year, to reach 23,778 takeoffs or landings. The monthly comparison shows that air movements represent 98% of the 2019 level.

In other words, while air movements decreased minimally compared to the last year before the pandemic, passenger numbers increased. This is explained on the one hand by the fact that we operate with larger aircraft and, on the other hand, by the fact that the aircraft are better exploited.

With 141 passengers per flight, the average number of customers increased by approximately 1% compared to the previous year. The seat occupancy rate increased by one percentage point in the month under review compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 84%.

A total of 35,457 tonnes of cargo were handled at Zurich Airport in September. This corresponds to an increase of 16% compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to September 2019, freight decreased by 3%. (OF)
