Dakar, Oct 12 (APS) – Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson said he was happy to have scored for the first time in the national team after seventeen caps and contributed to the Lions’ victory on Friday at Diamniadio , against Malawi.

”I’m happy for my first goal. I hope to post more in the future. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. It’s finally here,” said the Chelsea (England) player.

He scored Senegal’s fourth goal in the 77the min against Malawi, on an assist from Idrissa Gana Guèye.

Jackson maintained that his wish has always been to score goals for the national team as he is doing at club level where he has four goals and two assists in seven Premier League games.

”My first goal was a long time coming. I will do my best in the next matches to achieve more,” promised the 23-year-old who has been playing in England since June 2023.

Arriving in the national team in September 2022, the former player of Casa Sport (Senegal) played against Malawi for his 17e match with the Lions.

The native of Djibonker in Ziguinchor (Senegal) will have the opportunity to shine again with the Senegal national team, Tuesday, on the occasion of the fourth day of the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations, during which Senegal will still play against Malawi.

The former Villarreal player in Spain (2020-2023) participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Senegal. It was during this competition that he played his first match in the group stage against the Netherlands.

Nicolas Jackson was selected by former Lions coach Aliou Cissé to take part in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

He is the fifth Senegalese international footballer to wear the blue tunic after the players Demba Ba (2013-2014), Papy Mison Djilobodji (2015), Edouard Mendy (2020-2023), and the current captain of the national team, Kalidou Koulibaly (2022-2023).
