At Harvard University, Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, highlights HM the King’s vision for a dynamic and united Africa

“For HM King Mohammed VI, Africa is not only the continent of the future, it is also the lung of the present,” said Mr. Amrani during an event organized on Friday by the Center for the Study of African Societies and Economies (CSASE) at Harvard in the state of Massachusetts.

The ambassador recalled, in this sense, the message sent by His Majesty the King to the participants in the 4th edition of the Forum for Investment in Africa, in which the Sovereign stressed that “Africa needs more than ever “bold and innovative initiatives to encourage private entrepreneurship and unlock the full potential of our continent”.

During this event called “Africa Alive 24!” », in which diplomats, American officials, academics as well as students from African countries took part, Mr. Amrani stressed that to realize this ambition, Morocco plays a leading role.

“As the second African investor on the continent, we are not only building infrastructure, we are building bonds of fraternity,” said the Moroccan diplomat.

He illustrated this approach through the flagship projects undertaken by the Kingdom, such as the Royal initiative to promote access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, describing these initiatives as “highways of hope, pipelines of progress and bridges of fraternity across our great continent.”

Faced with global challenges such as climate change and food security, the Moroccan ambassador insisted that “Africa is not part of the problem, it is above all the solution”, pleading for a paradigmatic change in way in which development in Africa is conceived.

The Moroccan diplomat also called for strengthening investment in education, unlocking Africa’s potential by adopting the choice of connectivity and laying the foundations for a knowledge economy.

Such an approach which, according to him, is in line with the Royal Vision of a united, prosperous and leading Africa on the world stage.

According to its initiators, the “Africa Alive! ” offers an opportunity to “reengage the dynamic Africa-centered work done by Harvard’s past laureates, faculty and students, renewing expectations about Africa’s relevance and its rise in the global economy fostered by technology, and solidify prospects for deeper and more fruitful connections across Harvard networks that share a commitment to Africa’s flourishing.”
