Le Figaro’s opinion

8/10

Maison Obono is the newcomer that was missing from the Morbihan hotel industry. In a carefully renovated manor, rooms designed to accommodate up to six people, a swimming pool, a spa, a park with tennis court and outdoor games without forgetting a restaurant with modern and seasonal cuisine… The establishment focuses on comfort without ostentation and intelligently opens up to local customers for an aperitif or a dinner for a very successful atmosphere.

The situation

8/10

Maison Obono is located at the entrance to the Gulf of Morbihan, in the countryside, a 3-minute walk from the GR34 which runs along the Auray river and which, for the more adventurous, goes around . 2 km away is the village of Bono, a typical small Breton port known for its suspension bridge. A little further, you can visit the pretty town of Auray, connected to in 3 hours by TGV. , the department prefecture, is 15 km away.

The decor

8/10

The Kerdréan manor dates from the 13th century and was, until the revolution, the summer residence of the bishops of Vannes. With its park and surrounding wall keeping it away from prying eyes, it then became the property of Breton aristocratic families and then transformed into a hotel in the 1990s. It was at this time that the modern extension was built . The Turenne Hôtellerie group started work three years ago and Maison Obono saw the light of day in spring 2024. With trendy colors, large sofas in velvet or leather, diffused lighting and wooden furniture with vintage curves, the decoration is in tune with the times. Special mention for the bar, a room designed as a small white setting that contrasts with the rest of the manor.

The manor’s living room is equipped like a weekend home with a library, a large fireplace, board games and a large table for sharing family moments.

The rooms

7/10

The 68 rooms date from the 1990s, when the mansion was converted into a hotel. On the extension side, the renovated rooms overlook the swimming pool. Modest in size, a lick of paint and new furniture give them a facelift. There are several double rooms for families and even a few 3-bedroom accommodations. The rooms in the manor section, including an attic suite, are more upscale, with high ceilings, elaborate decoration and the feeling of being in a historic building.

Service and equipment

9/10

A wooded park in a centuries-old enclosure, a tennis court, another pétanque court, an outdoor swimming pool for sunny days, a welcoming lounge with its fireplace and board games when the temperature drops, discreet and smiling service… There is an atmosphere in this Breton manorfamily house” sincere. The team even plans concerts and outdoor cinema sessions. The icing on the cake: the spa located in an annex of the manor offers sauna and hammam with free access for hotel residents, Phytomer treatments and high-end massages.

At the table and at the bar

7/10

The central part of the hotel, the restaurant opens its large bay windows onto the grounds of the estate as soon as the weather permits. Room and terrace then become one. In a relaxed atmosphere, local customers come to discover this new regional restaurant among families passing through the hotel. On the plate, chef Maël Le Bacquer cooks seasonally: cucumber-raspberry and mint gazpacho, sea bream and small vegetables, impressive red fruit soup. But also comforting dishes, perfect for feeling at home during longer stays: shrimp or cheese pasta and confit chuck burger. The quality is there, the portions deserve to be increased. On Sundays, the brunch is full.

Special mention for the bar, a room designed as a small white setting that contrasts with the rest of the manor.

Value for money

9/10

In the heart of Breton nature, with a real park, a spa and well-designed facilities, the room rate is more than reasonable: from €83 for the modern side and €107 for a superior double room with breakfast.
