As the current tourist season draws to a close, Destination Québec cite (DQc) has compiled the preliminary data for the summer. According to this data, nearly a billion dollars was spent by visitors in tourism businesses in the Quebec region during the months of June, July, August and September 2024.

This is a increase of around 10% in tourist spending compared to 2023. This is an increase of 26% compared to the pre-pandemic summer of 2019.

« Once again, the Quebec region is having a very good season, thanks to its unmissable attractions and the know-how of people in the tourism industry. Increasing spending means we continue to thrive and remain a leading destination in North America in a very competitive market. We can be very proud of it, ” estimated Robert Mercure, general director of Destination Québec cited.

Of this billion dollars raised this summer :

  • Nearly half come from residents of other regions of Quebec;
  • More than a quarter is attributable to American tourists;
  • Nearly 15% come from visitors from other Canadian provinces;
  • About 15% is attributable to international tourists, other than American.

Forecasts right at the heart of the target

It should be noted that DQc’s forecasts for summer 2024 were particularly accurate, regarding the occupancy rate in hotel establishments in the Quebec region. DQc had forecast an overall occupancy rate for the summer of 82%. The observed occupancy rate is 83%, or 1% from being exactly in line with DQc forecasts.

This expertise allows us to develop business strategies that are appropriate, adjusted and beneficial.,” concludes Mr. Mercury.
