The VR invests the Drawing Lab ! The cultural space hosts a exposition immersive, in virtual reality, from the artist Boris Labbefrom October 11, 2024 to January 5, 2025. Entitled Ito Meikyuthis installation proposes to explore a universe where shapes and designs proliferate and transform, all in a Japanese universe where syllables and kanji come to life in a captivating dance.

The central work of this exposition, Ito Meikyuis a digital maze inspired by Japanese culture, including classic works like The Tale of Genji et Bedside Notes. Boris Labbe here mixes fractal patterns, calligraphies and scenes of life to create a complex architecture, where the observer can get lost in his discoveries. This installation virtual invites you to wander freely, in the manner of the technique fukinuki yatai“roof removed”, dear to the artist, which reveals the interior of buildings without ceilings, a process typical of traditional Japanese painting.

Our discovery of the VR Ito Meikyū exhibition at the Drawing Lab:

This VR experiencewe were able to discover it during an opening. Lasting 20 minutes, it invites you to “wander” freely within this “installation/labyrinth”. How does it work? After reserving your slot (you can also test without reserving, as long as you are not afraid of waiting in line), you put on a VR headset and let yourself be guided. The idea? Follow the white circles and move from space to space. The experience stops on its own after 20 minutes, with credits, ending the experience.

Regarding theinstallation VRyou immerse yourself in the twists and turns of a labyrinth, combining Japanese house, loom, tree branches and the Palace of Mirrors typical of fairgrounds. A surprising mix of genres, on a black background, inviting meditation and reflection. We enjoy observing the various animations, like a looping cycle in which we remain stuck: children playing instruments, couples kissing… So many scenes nicely drawn and nicely animated.

A curious experience to discover for all lovers of contemporary art.

L’exposition is also intended to be a journey through the diversity of forms and points of view, between “interior and exterior, transparency and opacity, exhibitionism and voyeurism“, elements which intersect in an infinite cycle. This common thread, almost invisible, connects all of the works of Boris Labbethus offering a reflection on movement, repetition and the deconstruction of forms in a new digital space.

This test was carried out as part of a professional invitation. If your experience differs from ours, please let us know in the comments.
