Thiès, Oct 9 (APS) – The lighting network of Thiès (west), 20 years old, will be completely renewed, i.e. more than fifteen avenues in total, announced the mayor of this city, Babacar Diop, Wednesday, at the opening of the budget session for the 2025 financial year.

The city’s lighting network, built as part of the “Thies construction sites” in 2004, “will be completely renewed, that is to say around fifteen avenues”, announced the city councilor.

He specified that the installations on these avenues will be modernized “with a switch to LED lamps”, renowned for their long lifespan and characterized by low energy consumption.

He revealed, at the same time, that the market for the repair of the city’s traffic lights was launched for “a total cost of 200 million” CFA francs.

“We have very big ambitions, we think that we will make fairly significant progress which will allow us to take charge of the many projects,” said Babacar Diop.

He notes that in this sense, the opening of the budget session was an opportunity to take stock of the major works of the city of Thiès, including those of the Place de , “a place steeped in history and which means a lot to the people of Thiéssois”.

“We took stock with the municipal council on the progress of the work”, as well as “on the commitments of the company which won the contract for the lighting network”, he said. added.

Efforts are being made with the control office, the supervisor and the architect’s office, he assures, adding that “for the moment things are going well, we dare to hope that we can accept the work before the end of the year”.
